Plagiarism detection

The journal publishes original and unpublished work, and authors must declare that their manuscripts have not been previously published in any scientific or academic outlet. To verify these statements, the journal uses an online system to detect any form of fraud or plagiarism.

However, given the limitations of automated plagiarism detection tools in Spanish and Portuguese, and in order to identify broader forms of unethical practices, the journal implements the following procedure:

  1. At the time of submission, authors are required to declare that the manuscript has not been previously published nor submitted to another journal for evaluation. Please note that posting the manuscript in a preprint repository does not conflict with this requirement.
  2. Authors are also required to confirm that they are following the Guidelines for Authors, which state that submitted manuscripts must be original.
  3. Upon receipt—and prior to initiating the review process—online search tools are used to identify other works by the authors and to compare the title, excerpts from the abstract, methodological section, and results of the submitted manuscript, in order to verify originality and prevent plagiarism.
  4. When the manuscript is sent out for peer review, reviewers are asked to pay attention to possible indicators of plagiarism, as they are familiar with the relevant sources and bibliography in the field.
